Agency Assessing Solar Viability
A proposed solar farm is up for zoning approval tonight in the Madison County town of Frankton. The project is designed to help developers assess the viability of solar energy. Members of the Frankton Town Council are set to vote on the plan to build the 4,000 solar panel project on eight acres. It will be the first of three demonstration projects in the state by Carmel-based Indiana Municipal Power Agency.
Indiana Banks Complete Merger
Muncie-based First Merchants Corp. (Nasdaq: FRME) says a $140 million merger with Citizens Financial Bank in Munster is complete. The company expects full integration of Citizens Financial under the First Merchants brand to be finished early next year.
Chamber Honors Ferguson, Lugar, Bedford
The chairman of Bloomington-based Cook Group Inc. has been named Business Leader of the Year by the Indiana Chamber of Commerce. Steve Ferguson oversees a company that employs 11,000 workers. At last night's annual awards dinner, the chamber also named former Senator Richard Lugar Government Leader of the Year. It previously announced the city of Bedford as Community of the Year.
State Seeks Illiana Corridor Partners
The state of Indiana is looking for private partners to design, build, finance and operate the Illiana Corridor project. The Indiana Finance Authority and Indiana Department of Transportation have issued a Request for Qualifications for the proposed corridor to connect northwest Indiana and the Chicago metropolitan area.
Economist: No Major Spike in Turkey Day Dinner
A Purdue Extension economist expects this year's Thanksgiving dinner to cost roughly the same as last year. Corinne Alexander says shoppers can plan on less expensive turkeys and slight price increases on other holiday favorites.

Former Indiana Beach Leader Passes Away
Arrangements are set for the former chief executive officer of a Hoosier tourist attraction. Tom Spackman will be laid to rest Friday in Monticello. He helped turn Indiana Beach into a regional summer destination and founded the organization now known as the Indiana Department of Tourism. Spackman was 100.
Salin Bank Inks Deal With IU Sports Programs
Indianapolis-based Salin Bank & Trust Co. has signed a three-year sponsorship deal with Indiana University football and basketball. The deal begins with the current basketball season and includes signage at Memorial Stadium and Assembly Hall.
Herron High School Receives Grant
Herron High School in Indianapolis says a $250,000 grant from the Allen Whitehill Clowes Charitable Foundation will support the restoration of its main building. The funding comes after last month's public launch of a $5.3 million capital campaign.
Indiana Authors Award Secures Funding
The Glick Fund will continue to support the Indiana Authors Award for at least the next five years. The honor is presented each year to recognize Indiana authors who have contribution to the state and national literary communities. Organizers have also announced 2013 recipients.
